How do I feel about cooking? Cooking is great! My mother has always been super into it, and thanks to her I have enjoyed many wonderful meals. As a child I used to sit and watch her cook, and ask her questions about why she was doing something a certain way, and sometimes I’d even offer to help. I enjoy cooking for myself and others, and delight in bringing together ingredients to create something new and exciting!
I took chemistry as a junior in high school, and for the first few units I really enjoyed it. In those first couple of weeks we learned the very basics of what atoms and molecules are and all that. My favorite part of the class was learning the nomenclature. I was very interested in the rules that made something a persulfate vs. a sulfate vs. a sulfite, etc., and this is probably the area I did the best in in the course. The rest of the year went by pretty painlessly, and I was thankful for that. I can say without doubt that I preferred chemistry to the physics course I took as a senior.
My expectations for this course are to gain an understanding about what role chemistry plays in the kitchen. Not only will I learn how chem relates to the kitchen, but also some valuable skills to take with me into my post-college life. I also hope to reawaken the part of me that really enjoyed chemistry in high school, that part of me that has laid dormant since entering the world of fine arts.
