MY ULTIMATE CHEESE WAFER
We all do it. A snack might often sound better than an actual meal. I have to admit that there are days when I snack more than I eat big meals. And this Indonesian cheese wafer brand is my ultimate favorite, which is called “Nabati”. The reason why I picked this food is because I eat them on a daily basis, and they are somehow high in vitamins. Since I moved to the US for college, I find it hard to look for this brand as it is more popular in Asian countries, so I usually bring a lot of these wafers with me whenever I come back home for break. I actually looked it up on Amazon and I was so shocked when they sold one box (20 pieces) with $13 while with $1 I can purchase the same thing in Vietnam! I always have a tendency to check the nutrition labels and ingredients before I eat processed food.
Here are the ingredients listed in the cheese wafers
- Wheat Flour

- Sugar
- Vegetable oil (contains Antioxidant TBHQ)
- Whey Powder
- Cheese Powder (contains Flavour Enhancer Monosodium Glutamate and Disodium-5-Ribonucleotide, Colouring Ponceau 4R Cl 16255 and Sunset Yellow FCF CI 15985)
- Milk Powder
- Emulsifier Soy Lecithin
- Salt
- Leavening Agent (Sodium Bicarbonate)
- Vitamin (A, B1, B2, B6, B12)
I am really surprised that the wafer contains most of the ingredients I can “pronounce”, which is not bad. The only thing I do not understand is why the food is low in saturated fat (<1 g) and has no trans fat at all while vegetable oil is listed in the ingredients. I know most trans fat is formed during an industrial process, and found in a variety of products such as snack food. Trans fat is considered to be bad for your health since it raises your bad cholesterol (LDL), which can cause heart disease.
